Shea and I took some pictures of our green garden on a warm early-November day. (Warm? Early November?) Some of our plants had already expired from the earlier cold snaps, and most others were on the retreat, but still we have a quiet green sitting area. And yes, our little black friend nearly always sits with us when we're out there.
As a little background... In the spring of 2003, Shea and I were exploring around our building in Soho, and found a disused patch of concrete between our building and the one behind it. After removing a few bags of trash that had accumulated over many years, we set about to create a sitting area. We bought plants to fill vacant pots, received some window box planters donated to our cause by some neighborhood gardeners, and (thanks to a gift certificate from my mom) returned from IKEA with a table and chairs that look to have been swiped from a trendy bistro. The resulting space is a shady place to enjoy some iced coffee, almost free of the din of the city, and normally notably cooler than the street.
